Ballerina shoes or slippers are one of the centerpieces that look like they defy gravity. There is no way a real pair of ballerina slippers could stand on their own.Well but sugar does magic! In this tutorial I show you how I made a pair of Ballerina shoes using a template I made.
Making the Ballerina shoes
First of all you need to download the template and print it out. In the tutorial I show you how I covered it with sticky book cover to be able to reuse it in the future. The process for making ballerina shoes takes three days for best results.
Day 1
On this day you make the body of the slippers with no details what so ever. In my tutorial I forgot to insert the wooden rods through the sole to help it stand on my cake. I improvised and worked it out as you see later in the video. On this same day I would also bake my cake, ice it and crumbcoat it.
Day 2
On this day I added all my details to make it look like a ballerina shoes. I did not do the ribbons for I have to put the ballerina shoes on the cake first. On this day also I covered my cakes with fondant and built its structure to make it a two tier cake.
Day 3
Assembly and delivery day. On this day I assembled my cake and put the ballerina slippers on top. As you see in the tutorial I inserted a small ball of fondant inside each slipper to hold the wooden dowel in place and prevent the slipper from braking. I should have inserted the dowel into the sole of the slipper on day 1, but I forgot, so I had to improvise and find a solution.
