How to cover a cake with fondant PERFECTLY

How to cover a cake with fondant PERFECTLY and give it a magazine style finish? The process is actually pretty simple its all about following the right steps and using the right tools. This is a video I made to show you exactly how I do that.

 

Key Tools

These are the key tools I use to give my fondant cakes a perfect finish.

  1. Rolling pin
  2. Turntable
  3. Measuring tape
  4. Cardboard Cylinder
  5. Fondant smoother
  6. Snap-off blade
  7. Right-Angled Cake Smoother

Procedure

I like first to measure the circumference and height  of my cake. Roll my fondant to the measurments I took earlier with an extra 10 cm on both sides.

Using a long ruler cut the rolled fondant to the required measurements. Roll the fondant around the cardboard cylinder. You can use the one found inside an aluminum foil. All this work on the fondant tends to

dry the upper surface a little bit. I like to flip the fondant as you see in the video,  so that the dry surface would face the cake.

Apply the fondant side ways, you will have an extra10 cm flap on top and on the sides. Tuck the upper flap on top of the cake until you reach a point you know it will be hidden under the top cake or centerpiece.

Using a snap-off blade or exacto knife cut the excess fondant neatly. I like to use a snap-off blade because its blade is very long and would give me better control over my cut. Using a fondant smoother, smooth the sides of your cake really well. Use the right-angled smoother to give your cakes sharp edges.

This process only works for tiered cakes or cakes with big centerpieces on top. In this process your cake will also have a back seam. The back seam could be covered using royal icing or melted fondant. There will be a future post and video showing you exactly how to cover the back seam of a sideways covered fondant cake.

The fondant smoothers are the most important tools required to cover the cake with fondant perfectly.

This is the process we use to cover most of our cakes with fondant perfectly, since the seam could be covered in so many ways.

سؤال بيسألوني دائما: كيف نغطي الكيكة بعجينة السكر و يكون شكلها زي الكيك اللي في المجلات. الطريقة قوي بسيطة.زيما انتو شايفين الفيديو. القصة في اخذ المقاسات و الشغل بروية و استخدام الأدوات الصحيحة

تعليق بسيط على الفيديو, بعد ما اخذت القياسات و طبقتها على الفوندانت, الفوندانت نشف معي شوية. هذا ليش قلبته قبل ما أحطه على الكيكة. نقطة ثانية مهمة جدا, هذه الطريقة تستخدم لما تكون الكيكة فيها عدة طوابق أو على الأقل فوقها زينة كبيرة تغطي السطح العلوي للكيكة

هذه الكيكة كمان لها جهة خلفية مكان التقاء جهتي الفوندانت. هذه حلها بسيط, ممكن نغطبها بالفوندانت السائل أو الرويال أيسنج. ان شاء الله شعمل فيديو و شرح لهذه الطريقة في المستقبل
